Instagram top 9 meaning
The phrase is used for three different things. Here is which one people mean, and how to tell from the way they ask.
Meaning 1 — the December recap
Nine posts from the year, arranged 3x3, published as one image. This is what most people mean in late December.

Meaning 2 — a ranking of posts
The nine posts with the most likes, saves or comments. Same grid, but the order is decided by a number, not by taste.
Meaning 3 — the Spotify-style wrapped
Sometimes people say top 9 when they mean a year-in-review story. Same ritual, different object: a card, not a slideshow.
How to tell which one is meant
Look at the date: in December it is the recap. Look at the numbers: if someone mentions likes or saves, it is a ranking. If they mention Wrapped, it is the story format.
Is top 9 the same as best nine?
Close, but not identical: best nine is usually chosen by hand, top nine is usually ranked.
